PASADENA, Calif., June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jacobs Engineering
Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) announced today that Jacobs Engineering UK Limited has
received a contract to provide preliminary architectural and engineering
services to the ITER Organisation, future owner/operator of the euro 10
billion International Fusion Reactor (ITER) Facility being built at Cadarache
in the south of France.
The 12-month contract is worth euro 6.5 million and is the biggest
contract placed so far by the ITER Organisation.
The ITER Organisation is responsible for the design, construction, and
commissioning of the ITER facility. This contract is focused on developing the
preliminary design of the ITER facility buildings and site infrastructure to a
level sufficient to support tendering the detailed design
(architectural/engineering services) later this year. Invitations for this
tender will be issued by the European ITER Domestic Agency "Fusion For Energy"
(F4E).
Jacobs will be responsible for bringing together and developing, as
required, all of the relevant data and user and system requirements for the
different buildings and technical groups within the ITER Organisation, and
will prepare the technical attachments for the procurement arrangement
documents that will be issued to F4E by the ITER Organisation.
Jacobs will deliver the work from its design centers in Glasgow in the
U.K., and Paris and Pertuis in France. Its management team for the contract is
co-located with the ITER Organisation management team on site at Cadarache.
Jacobs is being supported in the delivery of this Contract by Assystem.
Within the ITER Organisation, the pre-architectural engineering services
are managed by the Civil Construction and Site Support Office headed by Jerry
Sovka and a team of dedicated experienced professionals. "Our responsibilities
are to ensure that the virtual computer-aided designs are translated into the
real world of concrete and steel structures, with functioning buildings,
mechanical and electrical systems, roads, and tunnels on the Cadarache site,
that is now under preparation," noted Sovka.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President (for UK & Ireland)
Allyn Taylor added, "We are delighted that Jacobs Engineering UK Limited has
been awarded this contract. We see this as the start of a journey and a
long-term relationship with the ITER Organisation to support them in the
successful achievement of this unique international project. It is an
extremely exciting project. Fusion energy has the potential to provide a
global long-term, economic, low carbon source of electricity and we are
privileged to have a role in such an important mission."
Jacobs, with over 55,000 employees and revenues exceeding $9.0 billion,
provides technical, professional, and construction services globally.
